If it doesn't hurt my brain...

Things have become too easy.

We spend decades building expertise and just like that it becomes obsolete.

People without any of that hard earned expertise can now produce at the same level as us.

I say this as a software builder of 25+ years.

As a builder I feel compelled to challenge myself intellectually. I get bored when things are too easy.

So I now have a new rule of thumb.

If it doesn't hurt my brain, it's not worth building.

In my current startup Gentic this means constantly getting into harder to build infra layer.

But also starting new, hard to build projects.

Getting into actual science. Looking for very difficult unsolved problems.

And yes, hardware. Specifically, robotics.

More on this soon...
