I built a ChatGPT app w/ OpenAI Apps SDK but not impressed

Watch on YouTube

Last week I said I'd learn how to build a ChatGPT app w/ OpenAI Apps SDK and make a demo app.

I did and here it is. But...

Not super impressed. It just doesn't feel like the future to build a web component and send it back to the AI UI.

It's slow and... not sure if necessary?

I feel like the future of AI UI could be a lot more interesting than showing web pages inside of AI assistants.

I'm not sure if I'll keep building more UI components for ChatGPT. Also I don't want to lock myself into their world. I like MCPs that work across all AI assistants/agents.

Also, after having spent a ton of time sending apps for approvals to Apple, Shopify, Meta, TikTok - I'm not sure if I have the patience to add OpenAI app approval process added to my life.

More interested in voice agents (Cloe), memory (Memkit) and privacy of our personal data for AI use (Arca) right now so I want to spend more time in those areas.

Here are a few links to helpful guides (1 , 2) and samples (1 , 2) if you want to get your own ChatGPT app working.

So I "might" be starting a skincare brand… because an AI agent did something surprising - and now my wife wants to build it for real. Oh boy. Let me explain. Over the weekend I was putting the final touches on our brand new Gentic Startup MCP server.

Why Most AI Memory Feels Broken And What Better Looks Like

Markdown file-based memory is too basic for personal AI agents. A better approach is to model memory after human cognition. Here’s how I built Mio’s memory system in five layers. Most AI products say they “remember” you. In practice, a lot of them don’t. At least not
